What Are Synchronicities?

Synchronicity is a term coined by the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Carl Gustav Jung. The term was used to express meaningful coincidences that occur in our daily lives that validate spiritual ideas.

Examples of Synchronicities:

For starters, I’ll present to you a personal example. Last month, I just so happened to finally be satisfied with Version 14 of the print-proof of my book. So, I assuredly decided to publish it, on the 14th of February! I promise you that I had absolutely no intention–at all–of orchestrating this. Even if I could, what if Version 14 wasn’t good enough for me? Yet, it was! Mind you, I’m very detail oriented.

Perhaps, fourteen versions of a print-proof manuscript depicts my meticulousness. Therefore, I took it as a sign from God, that He Loves me and wants to gift me the opportunity of publishing my book on Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is a day where we especially express love and appreciation to one another. In my mind, I took it as God sending His Love and Appreciation of me for writing a self-help book that hopefully inspires someone out there. Likewise, I took it as an appreciation that I acknowledged and highly recommended to have faith in God to my readers.

Note: I do understand that some may say Valentine’s Day is a Pagan holiday, but the concept folks, try to understand the concept and the fact that God communicates with us on OUR level. With that said, who could have planned this perfectly? God, The Loving and The Majestic– that’s Who. Subhan’Allah! God is Perfect!

Of course, there are other examples of synchronicity, too. Like thinking about your deceased grandmother’s apricot jam, and without telling anyone, a friend comes over with apricot jam. Or, you’re thinking to yourself about how “amazing” your day is, and then someone nearby almost simultaneously uses the same adjective, “amazing.” Another example is, you could be thinking about someone often and finally call them only to realize that they were also considering calling you right then to ask for your help on a matter.

What’s the Purpose of Synchronicities?

Ultimately, synchronicities are meant to be specifically cut out for each individual experiencing them. The whole purpose of synchronicities are that they are supernaturally customized meaningful coincidences (or signs) that remind us:

  • That we’re at the right place at the right time
  • That we are attracting what we want to fulfill our goals/mission on earth
  • That we are in tune with the path of our destiny
  • That we are loved and looked after by the universe or God

Yes, the universe or God, depending on where you put your faith at this point. Personally, I feel that synchronicities are signs from God letting us know that:

  • He is Present
  • He Loves us
  • He wants to give us hope to keep going
  • He wants us to know that the path we are on is correct

Take the following ayah for example:

We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness? (Qur’an 41:53)

We feel God (subjectively) and these meaningful observations can be applied to using our intellect, or logic (objectively). It’s a subjectively objective phenomenon. Isn’t that so cool?

How Do We Experience Synchronicities?

Now, the question is: How do we experience synchronicities? To begin, we have to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness means calm awareness of the present. We attain calm awareness of the present moment when we slow down. For example, you may want to meditate, repeat spiritual utterances or mantras, take a walk, fold laundry (therapeutic, I know), or just rest.

Also, it helps to have the intention of spotting a synchronistic moment, and eventually you will! Keep a synchronicity journal; It’s so refreshing to look back on it and read.

Conclusion

I hope you have all the mindfulness it takes to experience the wonderful world of synchronicities. The more mindful you are the more synchronicities you will experience.

They are a reminder that we are not alone. God Is Watching over us and making sure we know it so we will be rest-assured that everything is supposed to be the way it is. Just maybe, you’ll be lucky enough to find out why…perhaps, through another synchronicity.
